If it feels wrong
Your feelings are smart. If something online makes you feel scared, confused, or icky inside, that feeling is telling you something. Here's what to watch for and what to do.
signs to notice
- Someone online asks you to keep a secret from your parents or guardian.
- Something makes you feel scared, confused, or icky inside.
- Someone you don't really know wants to talk privately, asks for photos, or where you live.
- Someone says you'll be in trouble if you tell — that itself is the sign to tell.
If any of that happens, it is not your fault and you are not in trouble for telling. The feeling in your stomach is real information. Trust it.
what to do
- 1Tell a grown-up you trust — a parent, guardian, teacher, coach, or relative.
- 2If you can't reach them or you're scared right now, you can talk to Childhelp: 1-800-422-4453.
- 3If you're ever in danger right now, call 911.
Telling a grown-up is brave, not babyish. You're never in trouble for telling.
